Casinos in Cancun

Orlando Rivas

In the last years, casinos have become an added to the wide variety of things to do in Cancun. This paradise city has many attractions and places to visit, so a casino never really became something people came looking for. Still, if you feel lucky and want to gamble a little during your vacations, here’s a list of casinos in Cancun.

Red Casino at Grand Oasis Cancun
The latest addition to the Grand Oasis Cancun entertainment is this full-service casino open 24 hours a day. It is the first one located in a Cancun Hotel Zone resort and includes a wide array of game tables with Blackjack, Texas Hold’Em, Baccarat and Roulette. You will also find bingo and slot machines, as well as a sports betting area.

Dubai Palace Casino
Located on Tulum Ave, close to Las Americas Cancun Mall, this casino opened its doors in 2010 with over 400 slot machines and various computerized versions of classic games like Blackjack and Texas Hold’Em. To play the games, you need to charge a card with credits that will be automatically added or subtracted as you play.

Casino Palace Bingo & Sports Bets Cancun
Also located on Tulum Ave, but closer to downtown, this casino spreads over two floors. The first one is occupied by slot machines and the sports betting area. Meanwhile, the second floor is where the Blackjack, Roulette and Poker games are available. Despite the fact that most of these games are also played on video machines, the feeling is as authentic as it can be, just with no live dealers.

Royal Yak Plaza las Americas
Royal Yak was one of the first casinos to open in Cancun. Located in Plaza las Americas, this place is mostly just slot machines and bingo, but the location and ambiance make up for the rest.

Ruins in the Riviera Maya and Yucatan

María Gutiérrez

There are many kinds of travelers: those who prefer to spend the whole day at the beach, shopping at the malls, or taking the sun at the hotel pool; and those who rather go outside and find some adventure. If you belong to the second group, then the Riviera Maya is the perfect place to be!

Everybody thinks that this destination is just beautiful beaches and fancy hotels, but there’s another side to it, THE RUINS SIDE!
The remains of ancient Mayan cities are now perfect places to take long walks, listen to amazing stories, and overall, have fun! These are the four ruins you must visit on your next vacation to Cancun and the Riviera Maya.

Chichen Itza is located in Yucatan, just two hours away from Cancun and Playa del Carmen. The most popular building among this group of ruins is “El Castillo,” one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, and it’s supposed to be a temple built in the name of Kukulkan. This temple has 18 terraces that represent the 18 months in the Mayan calendar and, on specific dates, a shadow in the shape of a snake is formed on its sides.

If you are interested in the whole story, you can go on a trip with an expert guide. He will tell you everything about this event and the history of this place. You can also find some near caves and cenotes, as well as restaurants and shops where you can buy some souvenirs.

2.- Coba

This ancient Mayan city is located in Quintana Roo, 76 miles from Playa del Carmen. It’s surrounded by a dense jungle and two large lagoons that you can watch from the top of the Nohoch Mul pyramid, the tallest pyramid in the Yucatan Peninsula. Climbing this building is the main attraction in Coba, but not the only thing you can do. There are guides who can give you a tour through the site and you can rent bikes so you can have a more comfortable trip.

Near the city of Valladolid in Yucatan, 30 min away of Chichen Itza, you will find the archaeological site of Ek Balam. A beautiful and well-preserved group of buildings make up this place from which only the central portion has been completely discovered. The most important structure here is “Acropolis” or “The Tower,” an impressive palace with over 500 ft of height.
The name Ek Balam comes from the Mayan language and is usually translated into “Black Jaguar,” although, some experts also translate this words into “Jaguar Star.” It’s the less known ruins site in the surroundings, but it has as much beauty and interesting information as any other.

4.- Tulum

Tulum is one of the most known Mayan ruins in the Riviera Maya. The translation of Tulum is “wall,” making reference to the three walls located around this city. However, the original name of the town is “Zama,” which means “dawn.” The combination of beautiful beaches and amazing ruins offer an amazing landscape that you won’t find in any other place. This site is the only Mayan city built at the edge of the beach.

The ruins in the Riviera Maya and Yucatan are just stunning and filled with beauty, but sadly, many people don’t know the history behind those amazing structures. So, when coming to the Riviera Maya, don’t miss the chance to visit those wonderful places and learn more about the Mayan culture. You won’t regret it!

Xcalak: A hidden haven beyond the Riviera Maya.

Orlando Rivas

Cancun and the Riviera Maya are absolutely gorgeous and have incredible beaches, but beyond these locations are more little havens hidden inside the Mayan jungle, just waiting to be found by intrepid travelers, and Xcalak is one of these paradise locations.

Located at the southern end of Quintana Roo, in the area called Costa Maya, Xcalak is a small village with no more than 400 inhabitants and beautiful white sand beaches with crystal clear waters. The natural environment of this town is a natural protected area, which allows the regional nature to bloom beautifully.

This village is close to Banco Chinchorro (an atoll) and the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System, making it a "must visit" to all eco tourism aficionados since they can snorkel or dive and contemplate the breathtaking views of these coral creations.

You can also try other activities like fly fishing (catch and release) or ride a boat through the mangle canals that extend all over the area.

Here’s a little video with a taste of all the wonders you can find while visiting Xcalak. And, if you want to visit this hidden haven, we recommend you book your transportation with Entertainment Plus. Contact them at reservations@entertainment-plus.net or through our website.

Four places you should visit when coming to Cancun.

María Gutiérrez

Every time we hear Cancun, the first thing that comes to mind are the stunning beaches and, of course, its nightlife. However, there are other places where you can found as much beauty and entertaining as the beaches and the nightclubs.

1.- Plaza Bonita
The perfect place to get some souvenirs for the entire family and friends! This Cancun square is surrounded by restaurants with cheap, tasty and typical food, and it has a beautiful scenery to take some photos. Located next to the famous Mercado 28, to get here you need to take the R-2 or R-27 bus.

2.- Parque de las Palapas
It’s the most famous park among the locals where, almost every night, different culture performances take place. You can find entertaining activities for kids as well as a lot of places to eat Mexican food. Go around and find some carts with pretty souvenirs and crafts.

3.- Playa Delfines (a.k.a. El Mirador)
One of the prettiest beaches in Cancun, certified with the “Blue Flag” for its installations and cleanliness. It has a balcony where you can enjoy the beautiful colors of the water, a playground area for kids, and the very famous Cancun sign where you can take a picture as a proof and memory of your stay here.

4.- La Isla Shopping Village
The biggest mall in town! Located right in the middle of the Hotel Zone, La Isla has many shops of the most prestigious international brands, entertaining activities like an aquarium and a wax museum, and many restaurants of international cuisine. There is also a dock where you can spend your whole day sitting on a bench watching the beautiful Nichupte Lagoon with your family.

So now you know, start packing your things and visit these places on your next trip… you won’t regret it. SEE YOU IN CANCUN!
